See All 100 Unfortunate Coaches Bill Belichick Has Ever Beaten
Bill Belichick has hit the century mark.
His hoodiness won his 227th regular season game on Sunday when the Patriots defeated the Browns (in Tom Brady's long-awaited return), moving him into fourth place for victories among NFL coaches. He's also bested exactly 100 coaches. The roster of head coaches who've fallen to Belichick run the gamut from the legendary (Chuck Noll, Mike Ditka and Bill Parcells) to the forgotten (Rick Venturi, Rich Kotite and Terry Robiskie).
Belichick still has a ways to go to become the winningest coach in NFL history. Don Shula, who once cast a shadow over the AFC East as large as Belichick's, has 328 victories. Even with a continued sustained run of excellence, Belichick won't be able to shatter that for seven or eight years.
It feels like Belichick has seen more faces on opposing sidelines than seats in Gillette Stadium and whether you love him like a die-hard from Marblehead or loathe him like everyone else from a region of the country that does not pronounce the word "chowdah," you have to admit he's got some serious staying power and fields winners with the ease of a QB taking a knee. Heck, he made Matt Cassel an 11-game winner. Even if you think he's a cheater, you have to give him some credit for pulling the rabbit out of that hat.
