Cris Carter Makes Emotional Child Abuse Speech, Says Adrian Peterson’s Deactivation is “the Right Thing” [VIDEO]

NFL Hall of Famer and ESPN sports analyst Cris Carter took a minute to make an emotional, passionate speech about child abuse in response to Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson’s Friday arrest.

“You can’t beat a kid to make them do what they want to do,” said Carter on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown program. “[The Vikings] did the right thing. Take him off the field.”

Peterson was deactivated for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.

The topic clearly had a personal resonance for Carter, who said his parents had punished him with physical abuse as a child. “My mom did the best she could do, raising seven kids by herself… but my mom was wrong. She did the best she could, but she was wrong about some of that stuff she taught me.”

Carter played wide receiver for the Vikings from 1990 to 2001.
